•Find a link to a post where there is a group being stereotyped

https://twitter.com/tplohetski/status/1242961989674156032

This is an example from Barton Springs on Wednesday •The groups of people are college students, although these look older like native Austinites, can be grouped with other people ignoring the ‘stay home’ order. What is the argument about? •More digging into story found that this was on the “free” side of Barton Springs since the actual park was closed. Ignorant idiots.

This isn’t a post, but I saw the video of the college student saying “If I get corona, I get corona, it’s not going to stop me from partying” as a post online. The group being stereotyped is college students, and that they do not see coronavirus as a threat at all. Although some college students don’t, and prioritize partying over staying at home to prevent the spread of coronavirus, that is not everyone. Many college students, at this point, see coronavirus as a real threat, and they’re not going to keep partying (especially with everything, including most college campuses, shut down).

  2. This is a tweet regarding Queen Elizabeth. She is typically well regarded and stereotyped to be an incredible athlete, national treasure and immortal monarch. Two of these stereotypes have been confirmed but I’m not sure how good of an athlete she actually is.

  3. This is a link to a twitter post of what most guys expect to happen when a friend gets a girlfriend in a comedic way. It is stereotyping young relationships in the way that a guy will move from being single to being in a relationship. However, there are many people in relationships that this is not accurate for, but demonstrates what is expected.

I found this article and I thought of the issue our world is having about millennials not caring about the coronavirus. The article explains that young people are not immune to this virus and hospitals are seeing more young patients because of their selfish behavior. Teenagers are still going out to bars, parties, and are being reckless because they think they won’t get it or they can beat it if they did. The reality is that yes a young, healthy person could fight it off but you can spread the virus to others who are at higher risk without even knowing you had the virus. This has been a reoccurring issue that needs to be stopped and get into millennial’s minds that they are not immune to this.

  5. Millennials have gotten a bad reputation when it comes to the corona virus and their stereotypical behavior in general. A bunch of people don’t realize that millennial means being born between 1980-1994. In reality a majority of the people that are on spring break are gen Z, but the older generations just think any one younger is a millennial.

In this tiktok, there is a stereotyping of moms, especially white suburban moms. The tiktok is meant to poke fun at the actions and treatment of mothers towards their children that are now at home, but also portray a sense of reality and accuracy. Besides white suburban moms, many mothers still portray these stereotypes in different ways whether it be forcing their kids to wake up early, creating chores lists, being super diligent about homework, or wanting the house and kids to be super clean.

  7. This is a video from Family Guy that stereotypes Asians as horrible drivers. Apart from the show, the stereotype continues to be popular in memes and tweets. I’ve seen many recreations of the family guy video on instagram while on twitter I see posts making fun of their driving. For example, the tweet that I attached here in the comment. The tweet says that Asians aren’t responsible for coronavirus but they are for driving. However, not ALL asians are bad at driving and there’s many people in other places in the world that have terrible driving skills.

  8. I have seen a lot of instagram posts and tweets about parents going crazy with kids at home all the time. This is stereotyping parents as being distant from their children and kids always being crazy. However, when I talk to my sister, who has two children between the ages of 7-10, she says that she really likes having them around. Some parents are probably stressed about how to take care of their children when they still have to go to work, but not all parents are stuck trying to figure out how to take care of their children and aren’t having as difficult of a time with their kids being home.

  9. This video by dude perfect shows the different types of gym stereotypes. It is a satire about the people that do things out of the ordinary at the gym such as trying to make conversation with others, trying to impress women, screaming during each rep, singing while working out, etc.

This image captures ‘spring breakers’ taking a picture at a Florida beach during the Covid 19 pandemic in which we are supposed to be isolating ourself from others. This image groups college students into an ignorant and selfish stereotyped group. Although this may not be how all college students are, especially now that all classes are online, this is how the media is categorizing college students.

This article stereotypes all generations in a negative light in response to the corona virus, other than gen X. It takes singular instances, such as “if I get corona, I get corona” and using this to explain the attitudes of certain generations, which is a huge generalization to make. The article sounds like it was written by a smug gen X person. It is a useless article.

  12. These are a couple of links to some tweets that stereotype lacrosse players as obnoxious white kids. The picture in the second post adds an image of what the stereotypical lacrosse players look like, white, cliquey, pretentious, etc. Part of this obnoxious lacrosse stereotype comes with the fact that it is primarily a sport played in the northeast, but being from Texas and going to a high school that had a program of its own, it was clear to see that the stereotype held true no matter where you are from.

  13. I saw this tweet and it centers on roasting “locals.” Locals are considered to be people living in your city that are bland and don’t have a personality. Usually people refer to people they went to high school with or knew before college that never left their small hometowns as “locals.” It’s a stereotype that people who do not travel or consider mainstream trends to be quirky or unique to them.

This is an article is about how people have used social media to make light of racial stereotypes. After Donald Trump’s reference of COVID-19 as the “Chinese Virus,” there has been an increase in this content in the media. This article shows some of the posts that have been made, some meant for hate, and other tik toks where people seemed to be making light of the hysteria.

  15. I have seen a lot of posts bashing celebrities. They are being bashed for doing nothing during coronavirus update. The stereo type is that celerities don’t use their platform to make change. however many celebrities have been donating and making change. There a few that have done nothing.

  16. I recently came upon this tweet. This group was just average working Americans. However, they were stereotyped as ignorant Americans who refuse to follow the stay at home order or social distancing. However, later found out majority of these people are going to low skilled job seen as essential. They do not have the luxury of practicing social distancing in the way they are being harassed for.
