Activity for this week
Answer either question 1 or 2
1. What has changed for you since last week? (What are you worried about now?)
2. If you could make any new technology to escape boredom what would it be?
Ex. 1. Is Amazon shopping or delivery a public health issue?
Ex 2. Something to make VR drinking and board games easy in quarantine.
1. What has changed for you since last week? (What are you worried about now?)
Since last week, I’m starting to wonder how I’m going to keep myself entertained and busy. Netflix and Youtube have got boring really quick because I’ve been online so much. Due to this, I now prefer to work because procrastination has lost its appeal (I have too much time to do nothing). Another thing I’m worried about is whether I’m going to be able to go home at all this summer. The situation in Dubai isn’t great and the lockdown has been extended by 2 weeks. Even when the UAE’s borders open, I don’t know whether the US will be allowing flights into and out of the country so things are very up in the air right now.

Answer to question 1: Not much has changed for me since last week, but only essential businesses are open now. My dad also started working from home last week, so now my whole family is home all the time, which is still a bit weird to me. I’ve also started Facetiming and talking with friends more over text/the phone, since we’re all getting extremely bored and annoyed. Otherwise, nothing has really changed over the course of a week; it’s just been boring being at home. I’m most worried about when this is all going to end (hopefully soon).

1. A lot of assignments were due in the last week for me, and it has been a struggle to keep up with how little I’ve done in the previous weeks to prepare, along with all the distractions in quarantine (TV, phone, wanting to be outside).

My grandparents think that they are going to be okay and are still acting like nothing is happening (I know, its bad).
I wish there was a VR hide and seek game that I could play with my friends because club penguin is getting boring. I would invent an outside games VR game to fix this.

1) Not much has changed in between last week. I’m still really bored and pissed at the old farts in our neighborhood. I’m hungry all the time and I can’t get enough food. I keep leaving the house to get food because 1. Restaurants are dying and people are losing their jobs and 2. I’m terrible at cooking food and I have extra money saved up because I’ve been imprisoned here for so long. It’s getting warmer at least so I can go in my back yard or go swimming so that’s good.

2) I would create a VR game that is similar to GTA so that you can freely roam while still being in your house. There is hours worth of entertainment with in GTA and it would only increase entertainment with a VR version. If you have seen Ready Player One, it would be similar to that.

Nothing has really changed since last week. Being at home has become more boring and I have found myself watching more movies and working out more to distract myself from boredom. The rules are still the same here in California so we are stuck inside until around the middle of May. I worry that the lockdowns will continue for longer than expected but hopefully the spread of the virus will slow down and we will be able to carry on with our regular lives.

Last week I thought that we might be out of quarantine in a couple weeks. This week I am sure that I will still be in quarantine on my birthday, May 16th. I wasn’t worried about people I knowing getting seriously ill, but now that I know the estimated death toll and the severity of the situation I don’t want my parents to go to the store or even leave the house. I am worried for my family.

Not much has changed since last week. I have noticed (from looking out the window) that there are less and less people out on the street. Last week, there were probably more cars outside because they were probably still panicking so they were restocking. I think people are starting to calm down and are finally staying home instead of going to the grocery store so much. Apart from this, everything seems the same in Brownsville so I am still going for runs but that’s the only reason why I go outside. I worry that the government will extend the lockdown until the summer. I was really excited for the summer and was planning on going abroad in the fall but now it’s all up in the air.

One thing that has changed last week is my job. I have been working at a golf course and while we do follow the county guidelines with individual carts, wearing gloves the whole time, etc, we are concerned that we will shut down this week. We have actually been extremely busy and while it might be best to shut down, I was making really good money off of tips and don’t want that to go away.

2. I’d invent a technology that allows you to transport food from your kitchen to your room. It is such a hassle having to get up to find food, so this technology would alleviate that concern. For style points, it would most likely be a floating platform so I wouldn’t have to move much to retrieve the food. In a period of time where we have much higher amounts of free time, every moment counts, so I want to make sure I’m not wasting a minute by walking to the kitchen and back.

1. What worries me now is the possibility of COVID-19 disappearing in the summer and then reappearing in the fall and losing volleyball season. I would hate to go through all of this again a second time, especially during volleyball season. It would be even worse if this pandemic continues and prevents us from returning at all in the fall. I do not know if I can handle being at home for that much time. It’s also hard to maintain close relationships with people far away since everyone’s lives are so stagnant and centered on watching shows or playing games with your family. There’s not much to talk about other than the coronavirus.

My parents feel that being quarantined is over the top and want to go out and do stuff. I try to convince them to stay home, but I worry that one of us will get sick. This isn’t exactly a new thing in the last week, but the severity of illnesses have increased exponentially in the last week. I am also worried about my grandparents because my grandfather has been sick for a while, but they are taking the stay at home orders more seriously.

To answer question 2, one new technology that I wish existed was the holograms in Star Wars so that I can actually see the physical presence of my friends and family. It would be nice to make ways to where we could still touch each other and touch the things in our environment without physically doing so. Perhaps the solution is a levitation device, but something to see the people we want to see beyond the scope of Zoom and Facetime would be very appealing.

There haven’t been many changes in Mexico apart from people panic buying more but there are a lot of people still on the streets not caring about the pandemic. I did hear that many non essential shops such as barbershops and repair shops were told by police that they might need to close in the upcoming weeks. I am worried about Mexico still not being in quarantine while other Latin American countries such as Peru and Colombia are and they have less reported cases. The president of Mexico has stated that we don’t need to worry about the virus and that we don’t need to be in quarantine yet. I think he is incredibly ignorant and I disagree with how his government is handling the situation.

1. For me, over the last few days I have had growing concern over my own health. I never got my wisdom teeth taken out in high school but over the past week I’ve begun to have issues related to them and I’ve self diagnosed this as an impacted wisdom tooth. While this is an issue that I’m sure can be taken care of now, as it is more urgent than just a routine dental checkup, there is tradeoff and risks that are presented in either scenario.

1. For me personally not a lot has changed. I am now getting used to being in my home all the time and not going out and about like I usually would. I’ve downloaded tik Tok after telling myself I never would so I guess that is a new change. School has been consistently overwhelming, I feel like I have more work now then when we were on campus. Its still a very surreal experience but its becoming more normal. I got an internship for now through the summer that I can do from home so that’s new and hopefully will be a fun distraction.

1. Not much has changed from last week. I am worried about some of my friends and family members staying healthy. I am also worried about the economy if we have to stay in quarantine for a really long time, because the unemployment rate is already rising so much. It’s been harder to focus on school, and I find myself procrastinating a lot more. I am trying to get into a schedule so that I don’t procrastinate as much and am more organized about my schoolwork.

I would make an app that lists a bunch of hobbies, crafts, skills, and recipes and gives people classes on how to learn that skill. It would basically be Pinterest/youtube on steroids that is only dedicated to how to videos and where people could learn a new language, sport, or instrument for free.

I would like to invent a Vr world where I could be apart of whatever I wanted. Like west world and Ready player one. I could plug in and play games with my friends but they felt real. I would want it full body immersed.

Question 1:
Being at home makes me increasingly less motivated to stay on top of things. I tend to get easily distracted because no one else around me is having to do school work. I have lost a lot of my routines due to being off campus and I need to adapt to my new surroundings and make new routines now in order to thrive.
